An Industrial City by Tony Garnier
On the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the birth of Tony Garnier (1869-1948), the utopian city project imagined by the Lyon architect in the early years of the 20th century is the subject of a unique edition, since no true facsimile has ever been produced from the original 1917 copy. Two contemporary authors introduce the project, placing it in its historical context and questioning its significance a century later.
An Industrial City comprises 164 plates: plans - of the entire city, a district or a detail - sit alongside perspective illustrations - washes or watercolors. This edition reproduces all the documents to the scale designed by Tony Garnier, with some plans larger than A0 format.
The large-format documents are reproduced on a set of unbound notebooks, so that they can be “recomposed” by the reader. All the documents are also reproduced in reduced format, to give an overall view.
